Graphics
With the power of DICE's new next generation engine "Frostbite" behind it, Battfield: Bad Company's graphics are some of the best I've ever seen on this generation's consoles. Supporting dynamic lighting and shadows and well as almost completely destructible environments, this category gets well deserved 10.
Sound
Also included in the Frostbite engine is DICE's new High Dynamic Range Audio system. The HDRA automatically prioritizes sound sources in real time allowing for louder sounds, and mch more of them. To quote the sound technicians "HDR audio makes loud sounds sound loud, and quieter sounds sound as loud as loud sounds." The music of Bad Company consists many genres including surf and blue steel. On top of that, it also includes a "Bombastic Orchestral Score" and reimagining of the Battlefield theme. Score: 10.
Controls
The controls of the character and vehicles are tight and easy to use. Most vehicles handle very well once you've learned the controls, with the possible exception of the helicopter taking quite some time and practice to wrap your hands around. Score: 9.
Story
You follow the adventures of Pvt. Preston Marlowe, a new transfer to B-Company as he and his squad pursue wealth in the forum of gold bars. The single player campaign of BC is rather short, only taking 6-10 hours to complete based on skill level and difficulty. Some terrible jokes are thrown around during cut scenes and gameplay, I'll leave you to decide the groan factor. Score: 8.
Fun
Bad Company is mainly a multiplayer game. You have 25 ranks to progress through every second rank offering an 'unlock point' used to unlock weapons of your choice for use in MP. In MP, Two teams are pitted against each other, one attempting to defend gold crates, and one attempting to destroy gold crates. Once all the gold crates are destroyed or the attackers run out of reinforcements, the game is over. Currently, 'Goldrush' as it is called is the only game type available for play. Score: 9.
Replay
Replay value for this game is average, a short single player and slightly bland multilayer make this a game entertaining for a while, depending on your level of ADD. Score: 9
In closing, I would recommend this game to any veteran of the Battlefield franchise, and any console owner looking for a new game to try.
Nice points... I agree with your review for the most part. I plan to make my own review but I'm going to wait until I finish out the campaign, I'm currently on... Forgot the name, but it's the obnoxiously annoying solo mission.
I thought Ghost Town was going to be ridiculous on hard but it was actually pretty manageable. My friends was over and we were gonna play some BC online and I was just playing Ghost Town while he had Taco Bell and I decided to take on the final helicopter with the laser designator to see if I could get the 1 in a million achievement... Anyway long story short it seems when you use the designator that the helicopter is actually spending more time evading then firing missiles so you take no damage... So it took me about 15 minutes to finally hit it with the laser designator... But I still needed to slam it with two more rockets to drop it.
